Who we are and what we do

This section provides links to information about our organisation, structure, location and contacts.

How we fit into the NHS structure

We are an acute trust. We provide acute care in a hospital setting, including inpatient and outpatient treatment, accident and emergency (A&E) facilities and specialist services..

Organisations with which we work in partnership

We have built relationships and work in partnership with a range of NHS organisations, local government and other bodies and are ultimately accountable to the secretary of state for health.

Local

University of Nottingham

As a teaching trust we have a strong relationship with the University of Nottingham. Together, we are at the forefront of many research programmes and new surgical procedures and have NIHR biomedical research units in hearing and digestive diseases.

Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs)

These replaced primary care trusts in April 2013 as the lead commissioners for local health services, enabling GPs and other clinicians to work alongside NHS managers and commissioners to plan and buy health services for their local population. The CCGs in Nottinghamshire are:

Nottinghamshire Healthcare NHS Trust

The provider of integrated healthcare services, including mental health, learning disability and physical health services, in Nottinghamshire. These include acute wards in our hospitals.

Nottingham City and Nottinghamshire County Joint Overview and Scrutiny Committee

The Joint Health Scrutiny Committee is responsible for carrying out the statutory health scrutiny role for matters that cover the Greater Nottingham area. We meet with councillors regularly to discuss key health topics.

Nottingham City Council

We work closely with the council to ensure we safeguard vulnerable children and adults. The Early Intervention Programme also aims to break cycles of poverty and ill health among children.

Nottinghamshire County Council

We work with the council on a variety of campaigns out in the community, such as safeguarding and the Good Neighbour guide.

Nottinghamshire Police

We link up with and support the police to ensure our hospitals are prepared in the event of a major emergency.

Healthwatch

Healthwatch England is the independent consumer champion for health and social care in England. Working with a network of 152 local Healthwatch, it ensures that the voices of consumers and those who use services reach the ears of the decision makers.
